However, Chief Football Correspondent for The Times, Oliver Kay who had closely linked Şahin to Liverpool has now said it's far from being a done deal.

Kay tweeted, "I'm backtracking re Sahin/LFC. *Could* still happen but Arsenal move yesterday changed the dynamics."

Jol added: "I would like to keep him, but I think it's impossible. It's a sad and an almost embarrassing situation."

He has been left furious at Liverpool's actions.

"That was very disappointing," Jol said.

"There was never an offer. Clint himself told everyone he was going to Liverpool before he came back so we really thought there was quite a firm interest in him.

"Even [Rodgers] told everyone he was interested in Clint Dempsey, but our people never had an offer on the table, so it's almost embarrassing.

"If you have shown interest in a player, especially in England, you have to follow it up with an offer. They didn't."

Dempsey is believed to be trying to force through a move to Liverpool and Jol is less than impressed, describing the situation as 'sad and almost embarrassing'.

The USA international has as a consequence been punished by Fulham in the form of a fine and it remains to be seen if he is still at the club beyond the 31st August transfer deadline day.

Una vez sea efectiva la llegada del croata Luka Modric, del Tottenham al Real Madrid, el mediocentro alemán de origen turco aceptará su salto como cedido a la Premier League, después de una primera temporada en el club blanco para olvidar, sin apenas minutos para poder consolidar todas las expectativas que generó su fichaje procedente del Borussia Dortmund alemán. A sus 23 años, Sahin estaba llamado a organizar el centro del campo del Madrid y bien por culpa de las lesiones o por la poca confianza de su entrenador, José Mourinho, se ha quedado con las ganas de poder reivindicar toda la supuesta calidad de su fútbol. Apenas diez partidos con el primer equipo y un solo gol de cabeza resultan un balance lamentablemente escaso para un futbolista elegido por la UEFA como el jugador más prometedor en el año 2011.

El duelo por Sahin entre Liverpool y Arsenal parece decantado a última hora a favor de los 'reds', que verán mejorado su centro del campo con un importante refuerzo, el tercero de esta temporada después de las adquisiciones de Joe Allen, procedente del Swansea y fichado por 12 millones de libras también para reforzar la medular, y del delantero italiano expunta de la Roma Fabio Borini, que ha costado ocho millones.

Pese a que el Arsenal de Arsène Wenger resultaba el equipo más idóneo para la llegada de Sahin, ante las ausencias por lesión de Jack Wilshere y la inminente marcha de Alex Song al Barcelona, las eternas diferencias entre Wenger y Mourinho, junto a la problemática suscitada por reforzar a un posible rival en la lucha por la Champions League, han convertido a los 'gunners' en rivales incómodos para ceder en préstamo a la eterna promesa del fútbol internacional.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed he would 'need to be a nutcase' to let striker Andy Carroll leave Anfield on loan.

Liverpool are confident of completing the loan signing of Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on Friday after Arsenal ended their interest.

The Reds offered to pay a larger proportion of Sahin's £115,000 wages, swinging the deal in their favour. There will also be an option to buy the player for £14m at the end of the loan.

Sahin ready to take on Liverpool challenge
Nuri Sahin says he is concentrating on helping Liverpool challenge on all fronts before assessing his options at the end of the season when his loan spell concludes.
The Turkey international arrived at Anfield on Saturday on a season-long deal from Real Madrid, and said he remains open to all eventualities including a potential permanent switch.

Sahin, who cost the Reds around 2 million euros (£1.6million) in a loan fee to Madrid, has no regrets.
